Once the student has developed a solid technical foundation, I would begin to introduce them to the concept of musical expression. This could involve discussing the emotional content of different pieces of music, and encouraging the student to experiment with different tempos, dynamics, and phrasing to convey different moods and feelings. 

To help the student develop their own sense of musical expression, I would provide them with opportunities to improvise and compose their own music, as well as encouraging them to try different arrangements and interpretations of existing pieces. This would give them the freedom to explore their own musical ideas and preferences, and to develop their own unique voice as a musician.
